Companies:The Thoroughbred Racing Associations, Inc. group, including the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau -- Location Fair Hill, Maryland (near Newark, Delaware) --Education Level Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Professional Accounting Designation -- Career Level Executive Management -- About the TRA & TRPB The Thoroughbred Racing Associations of North America (---TRA---) is a not for profit trade association comprised of 40 member racetracks. The TRPB is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the TRA and is responsible for providing clientele specialized wagering analytics, horse racing integrity and information management services. TRPB represents a unified effort by TRA-member racetrack associations to maintain high standards, protect the legitimate business interests and integrity of the sport, and maintain public confidence in horse racing. -- The TRA Group is currently seeking a Controller to join the team at the Fair Hill, Maryland offices. Position Purpose The Controller will head TRA's Group Financial team. The Controller will work closely with senior management of the companies, the outside Auditors, and the TRPB Bookkeeper, who reports to the Controller. The Controller is responsible for the accounting operations of the TRA and its subsidiaries (TRPB, TRA Enterprises, and Equibase Holding Partners LP) to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with GAAP and/or international financial reporting standards. The Controller is also responsible for cash management, benefits administration, taxation, licensing, banking & insurance. -- Certificates and/or Licenses Documents that establish both identity and employment eligibility Valid Driver's License ------ Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintaining and enforcing a documented system of accounting policies and procedures Overseeing the operations of the accounting department, including ensuring that accounts payable and debt payments are paid in a timely manner and accounts receivable are collected promptly Managing the business bank accounts and acting as bank account signatory Performing wire transfers Managing taxes including federal & state reporting requirements Ensuring that periodic bank reconciliations are completed Issuing timely and complete financial statements Managing the production of the annual budget and forecasts; calculating variance from the budget; and reporting significant issues to management Providing financial analyses as needed, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations Coordinating the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit Complying with local, state(s), and federal government reporting requirements and tax Managing Benefits Administration Overseeing Payroll & management of the Bookkeeper position Handling corporate insurance and licensing TRPB's IT Liaison among the database manager, programmers, consultants, and support Managing IT Maintenance & Service agreements Will be expected to travel as needed and will need to hold a valid passport May be called on to provide Financial Reporting to the Board of Directors Must be available for periodic weekend or evening work to meet deadlines -- Required Skills and Experience To be successful in this position, the following skill set is required: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word & PowerPoint) Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English Ability to perform multiple tasks and meet deadlines Attention to detail Management of a small staff and collaboration with a peer group of managers Respect confidentiality of information Must successfully undergo a thorough Background Examination Must have own transportation to get to and from the TRPB/TRA office -- Asset Knowledge of horse racing Prior job experience in a small company with a multi-state operation Strong interpersonal and communication skills CPA Designation -- Work Environment The TRPB/TRA Office is a smoke-free environment located in Maryland horse country, with a positive, creative, and productive atmosphere. Employees are eligible to participate in a full benefits package including a company-matching 401(k) retirement plan, health and dental insurance, and a generous vacation and sick leave policy. Normal office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM --- 5:00 PM. Dress code is casual but appropriate for work responsibilities and assignments.
