CONTEXT OF JOB:
Under the limited supervision of the Manager, UDairy Creamery, the
Assistant Manager assists with the overall operational and
administrative functions of the Creamery, to include production,
marketing, sale and distribution of ice cream and other products at
the UDairy Creamery facilities, UD campus, and local events. The
Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting with the management
and execution of events involving the UDairy Creamery and the
operations of the UDairy Creamery Moo Mobile ice cream truck.
The Assistant Manager is responsible for the management of all
location operations in the absence of the Creamery Manager at the
Flagship location or UDairy Creamery Caf--.
The Assistant Manager is responsible for the supervision and
scheduling of student and miscellaneous wage employees and
mentoring of up to four annual student interns.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as primary coverage in the absence of any of the managers of
the Creamery operations.
Assists with the management of the operational, administrative, and
fiscal affairs of UDairy Creamery events and the Moo Mobile. Events
include off-campus events with MooMobile and campus events,
including but not limited to the Delaware State Fair, Men's &
Women's basketball games, Football games, Ag Day, career fairs, and
other various events.
Assists with the operational, administrative, and fiscal affairs of
the UDairy Creamery Caf--, Catering, and UDairy Creamery flagship
location
Assists with marketing, sales, production, menu development and
distribution of food and other products including ice cream,
cheese, prepared foods and CANR Ag products.
Assists with coordination of staffing, set up, supervision, and
billing of the Moo Mobile ice cream truck.
Develops and recommends employee training programs and business
action plans.
Supervises and trains assigned student and miscellaneous wage
employees and interns. Coordinates schedules and manages timesheets
and payroll related inquiries in partnership with Creamery HR
Liaison. Makes recommendations to Creamery leadership on personnel
actions.
Manages business relations of the UDairy Creamery to CANR
departments and units, the Office of the Dean of the College of
Agriculture and Natural Resources, UD's Office of Communication and
Public Affairs, UD's Dining Services, UD Athletics, Newark
community, as well as the public media, faculty, staff, graduate
and undergraduate students.
Communicates functions, services, and goals of the Creamery
operations to internal and external stakeholders.
Assists leadership with the recording and management of the
Creamery accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, payroll,
and event financials.
Responsible for complying with university policies, procedures, and
best practices regarding protecting data and following UD data
governance rules
Performs other job-related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree and two years related experience, or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
Experience or academic background in management of a food service
operation.
Experience or academic background in food science and/or dairy
science preferred.
Knowledge of Microsoft computer programs and computerized
information systems.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience in facilitating events.
Knowledge of cost analysis techniques and budget preparation
preferred.
Ability to develop financial plans, manage resources and analyze
budgetary expenditures preferred.
Previous supervisory and/or employee training experience
preferred.
Advanced knowledge of customer service standards and procedures
preferred.
Skills in establishing, directing and enforcing policies and
regulations preferred.
Ability to develop, plan and implement short- and long-range goals
preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
ServeSafe Certified or must be able to achieve certification within
30 days of start date.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Evening and weekends
required for special events.
Must maintain a valid license in order to drive department
vehicles.
With or without assistance, must be able to move or lift up to 50
pounds.
