Chemours is seeking a Lab Safety Leader to join our growing team! This position will report directly to the Site Safety, Security, and Contract Administration Manager at our Newark, DE location.

The successful candidate will have a history of driving safety improvements, have well established networks, experience in working in an R&D setting, and will be expected to translate that knowledge to the execution of programs and initiatives that make a difference. The successful candidate will interact with many levels of the company - from site leadership to lab floor.The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, creative, conscientious individual who will bring a passion for people and safety to ensure that Chemours Environmental, Health, and Safety performance is a fundamental component of business success.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead the Lab Process Safety Management program through reviews of hazard risk assessments, standard operating procedures, and participation in pre-safety start-up reviews.
  • Collaborate with Research & Development teams to ensure the safe conduct of work activities and determine proper Personnel Protective Equipment and occupational hygiene controls.
  • Oversee the Lab Safety Audit Program to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Support efforts on the review and revision or development of new safety procedures.
  • Assess and trend safety performance - analyze, communicate, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Coach and support research personnel with the right strategies and tools to implement the concept of psychological safety, including team and leadership coaching.
  • Support site improvement initiatives including analysis of leading and lagging indicators of performance - sharing trends and driving continuous improvement and occupational injury and illness prevention.
  • Support workplace medical surveillance programs for respiratory protection and hearing conservation through program reviews and field audits.
  • Support the site's Radiation Safety Program through program reviews and field audits.
  • Participate in all applicable corporate-wide safety networks - ensuring leveraging of best practices, sharing of learnings, and awareness of regulatory changes.


    The following is required for this role:
    • Bachelor's degree in a chemistry, engineering, or related field.
    • 3 to 5 years of Laboratory experience.
    • Strong knowledge of laboratory hazard risk assessments and a history of implementing safety improvements.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leadership skills (specifically in influence leadership).
    • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements.
    • Ability to foster productive, collaborative relationships at all levels of an organization.
    • Demonstrated ability to meet commitments, troubleshoot and problem solve.
    • Ability to influence through written and oral communications.


      The following is preferred for this role:

      • Experience with toxic materials.
      • Experience leading process hazard reviews.
      • Experience leading incident investigations.

        Pay Range (in local currency):
        $93,184.00 - $145,600.00

        Chemours Level:
        25

        Annual Bonus Target:
        8%

The incentive pay is dependent on business results and individual performance and subject to the terms and conditions of the specific plans.
