Job Description:

Chemours is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer - High Temperature Applications to join our growing Titanium Technologies team! This role will be part of a multidisciplinary team, driving improvement efforts and solving materials-related challenges in a global, industry-leading titanium dioxide manufacturing circuit. This is a highly visible, key role within the Company and the Technology function. This position will report to Process Development Group Manager at our Newark, DE location.
*The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:* * Identify and implement new technologies that provide improved resistance to the highly erosive and corrosive environments found in the titanium dioxide manufacturing process (chloride process).
* Identify and implement materials upgrades that improve thermal resistance and/or heat transfer capabilities in liquid, gas, and mixed phase systems.
* Provide expertise on materials selection and use for reaction vessels, conveying systems, separation equipment, filtration technologies, burner systems, mixing equipment, grinding systems, packaging equipment, etc.
* Drive business initiatives for world class performance in safety, yield, reliability, uptime, quality, capacity, and minimization of environmental footprint.
* Lead improvements from definition and research of opportunities, through laboratory and plant testing, and ultimately to design of capital equipment.
* Coordinate technical projects and communicate findings with colleagues located throughout the world.
* Continually evaluate and bring to light industry trends that pertain to materials science and engineering.
* Travel up to 25% may be required to visit manufacturing sites to support research activities as needed.
*The following is /required/ for this role:* * PhD in Materials Engineering OR MS in Materials Engineering with 5+ years of industrial experience will also be considered.
* Experience with corrosion and wear of metallic materials due to high temperatures (>400oC) and corrosive liquids and slurries * Experience with the selection and specification of metallic materials including hard facings * Expertise in mechanical property testing and the identification of the modes of mechanical failure of metals * Ability to work with people who have diverse backgrounds and skill sets *The following is /preferred/ for this role:* * Desire to drive materials innovation and development in a global, multidisciplinary team * 5+ years of industrial experience working with high temperature applications * Ability to develop or modify manufacturing practices for metallic materials and experience with failure analysis of metal components * Expertise in characterization methods including SEM / EDS and XRD * Experience with surface engineering of metals to produce enhanced functionality including erosion resistance, corrosion resistance and fouling resistance * Familiarity with other materials systems (plastics, ceramics, refractories) * Six Sigma certification or training in statistical analysis *Benefits:* * Competitive Compensation * Comprehensive Benefits Packages * 401(k) Match * Employee Stock Purchase Program * Tuition Reimbursement * Commuter Benefits * Learning and Development Opportunities * Strong Inclusion and Diversity Initiatives * Company-paid Volunteer Days *WE'RE CHEMOURS.
