At Chemours, our purpose is to help create a colorful, capable and cleaner world through the power of chemistry!The Chemours Titanium Technologies Product Development Organization located at the Chemours Discovery Hub in Newark, DE has an open position for a Senior Staff Scientist in the Electron Microscopy Competency.- This is an important role within the Company and the Science and Technology function. This position will report to the Global Product Development Manager for the Titanium Technologies Business but will take functional guidance from the leader of the Electron Microscopy team. The successful candidate will interact broadly with scientists in the Titanium Technologies, Advanced Performance Materials and Thermal Specialized Solutions around the globe.? The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The primary duty of this Senior Staff Scientist in the Electron Microscopy competency will be to perform Materials Science analyses using a Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (EDS), Electron Energy Loss Spectrometry (EELS), and optical microscopy to determine the physical and chemical structure of solid materials in order to describe structure/performance relationships of materials and use that understanding to suggest improvements and solve problems across all Chemours businesses.
  • The secondary duty of this position is to operate the environmental and extreme resolution Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEMs) for additional material characterization.
  • Prepare samples for electron microscopy imaging
  • Operation of TEM and SEM instrumentation to image and analyze solid samples such as TiO2 pigments, solid-state heterogenous catalysts and various products in their end-use state are included in the responsibilities of this role.
  • Compilation of the results in reports to the internal customers. Internal customers are researchers, manufacturing and quality control.
  • Arrange for equipment service as needed.-
  • Maintain all records relevant to instrument usage, maintenance, chemical stocks and other inventories.-
  • Maintain lab environment and records in compliance with Environmental Health & Safety requirements
  • Engage in periodic interactions with other-functional groups
  • Periodically interact with external contacts including vendors and professional organizations.
  • Exercise judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Use professional experience and judgement to contribute to development of Microscopy Services and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways.- The following is required for this role:
    • Bachelor's or master's degree (or equivalent experience) in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science or related field
    • Significant and hands-on experience working with high resolution TEM and SEM imaging
    • Experience with sample preparation for TEM and SEM
    • Working knowledge of design, theory and operation of modern scanning electron microscopes, including skill and experience in their operation.
    • Ability to troubleshoot when problems arise and determine course of action for maintenance and service.-
    • Familiarity with digital image acquisition and analysis.
    • Knowledge of safety protocols and standard operating procedures needed to carry out all job responsibilities in a safe manner in order to protect one's self and those around them, minimizing or eliminating exposure to hazardous materials and/or conditions.
    • Demonstrated organizational skills and technical problem solving skills. The individual must be able to organize electronic data, information and images as well as laboratory equipment (microscopes, sample preparation, etc.).
    • Ability to work with a variety of internal customers from different functions and businesses and ability to understand their specific analytical needs
    • Must be able to work independently and with a team
    • Must be able to work in a fast-paced setting, multi-task, and prioritize assignments
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent team player The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:
      • Experience with cryo-microtome
