Context of the Job

Cooperative Extension is an outreach branch of the University. Cooperative Extension educational and research programs connect the public with university knowledge, research, and resources to address the needs of youth, family, community and agricultural communities. Cooperative Extension works in the areas of agronomic and vegetable crop production; farm and youth safety; 4-H/ youth at risk; health and well-being. These programs are aimed at improving the quality of life through the transfer of research-based information to the program participants. Extension also works with a large group of volunteers to enhance programming and reach.

Under the limited direction of the County Director and Health and Well-being Program Leader, and in partnership with colleagues, the Extension Agent is responsible for working to address needs in communities across the state. This position develops, administers and evaluates innovative, effective and efficient education programs related to critical issues for Delaware families; teaches clientele knowledge and skills based on the latest research findings in their area of expertise; works alongside community partners on coalitions; works on the volunteer program; and assists in Extension-wide activities. Cooperative Extension seeks to fill two positions in this area, one with specific experience in health and financial well-being and another with specific experience in community health and well-being with a focus on youth and adult partnerships.

Major Responsibilities

+ Identify, analyze, and provide leadership for addressing critical issues of concern to county/state/area residents with respect to individual and family health and well-being.

+ Working with county agents, assess partner and community needs related to the area of youth and adult partnerships and intergenerational approaches to address holistic health and well-being of communities and residents.

+ Develop, administer innovative and evaluate effective educational approaches to help the diverse populations and residents of the state/county develop plans to address identified issues. May work with extension colleagues as well as community based organizational/governmental leaders.

+ Plan, adopt, and/or facilitate research based educational programs without supervision.

+ Plan,develop and execute appropriate delivery methods to teach clientele new practices, procedures, and skills based on the latest research findings.

+ Conduct needs assessment as appropriate. Consult secondary needs assessment data and grounded theories and research based information to inform your program. Identify and collaborate to execute research available to support educational program focus.

+ Partner with others to seek external resources and funding for program expansion. Provide for supervision of personnel, and manage funds.

+ Prepare grant proposals for funding of educational programs and applied research projects.

+ Create marketing materials and strategies for promotion of Extension programs.

+ Follow Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity guidelines to ensure equal access to Extension programs.

+ Expand educational techniques and serve as an evaluation team member. Communicate and work with committees for the program area.

+ Supervise student interns and other staff who assist in program delivery.

+ Working with the team, develop training and opportunities for Master Wellness Volunteers

Kent County Position:

+ Identify, analyze, and provide leadership for addressing critical issues of concern to county/state/area residents with respect to individual and family health and well-being, specific to youth and adult partnerships and intergenerational approaches to improving health outcomes.

+ Manage Just in Time Parenting

Sussex County Position:

+ Identify, analyze, and provide leadership for addressing critical issues of concern to county/state/area residents with respect to health and well-being, specific to financial well-being and healthcare literacy.

+ Work with local and national partners to identify issues related to consumer financial well-being and health insurance.

Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree plus four years' experience or Master's plus two years' experience in Extension teaching, research or related experience. Demonstrated experience working in Public Health, Health Promotion, Community Resiliency, or other related field and Extension and youth and/or adult education methods required

+ Possesses excellent organizational, management and human relations skills.

+ Demonstrate ability to plan and report an individual work plan. Possesses excellent written communication and public speaking skills.

+ Able to generate impact reports.

+ Evidence of the ability to work with and occasionally lead other professionals in programming.

Other Requirements:

+ Position requires a valid driver's license and/or private reliable means of transportation.

+ Must be able to work nights and weekends

+ Ability to communicate with individuals of diverse backgrounds (i.e; academia, general public, and public officials).
