health.ChristianaCare is recruiting a General Laboratory Supervisor
to supervise Medical Laboratory Scientists and clerical staff and
to ensure the safe, accurate, and timely performance of
cost-effective laboratory testing.Principal Duties and
Responsibilities:Assist the Laboratory Section Manager in the
supervision of the activities of daytime MLS I and II staff, and
day, evening and morning clerical staff. Leads section in the
absence of section manager.Create schedule and daily work
assignments and ensure appropriate coverage of all activities. In
conjunction with Wilmington supervisor and evening shift
supervisor, ensure coverage at both the Newark and Wilmington
locations during all hours.Monitor technical work flow in core lab
daily, and collaborate throughout the day with Technical
Specialists, MLS II staff, and Section Manager to prioritize and
make appropriate adjustments to ensure effective utilization of
personnel.Communicate pertinent laboratory information to
staff.Coach, council, and provide positive discipline to employees
in accordance with CCHS and departmental performance guidelines.
Support staff in the understanding of how their duties fit within
the context of high quality results, organizational learning and
improvement, and how their choices impact safety from all
perspectives.Collaborate with Technical Specialists and department
leaders to schedule regular staff meetings and determine
agendas.Implement and monitor appropriate safety precautions and
address all safety-related issues. Ensure all safety-related
training is completed.Develop technical and non-technical quality
improvement indicators, collection of data, and interpretation of
results and trending of statistics. Write or modify and update
existing non-technical guidelines and procedures to make them
applicable to the working environment. Ensure recording of
statistics via computer system as necessary.Support manager in
completion of time sheets and resolution of any payroll-related
problemsAssist in the investigation of variance reportsImplement
and monitor an appropriate system for specimen identification,
retention and retrievalParticipate in the interview process of
employment candidates. Assist in providing coordination for the
successful orientation, training and competency of new personnel.
Provide orientation of new personnel, ensuring that the new
employees are familiar with the department and section.Education
and Experience Requirements:Bachelors of Science or Master's degree
in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science; or equivalent BS
degree which requires completion of clinical rotations through an
approved education programAt least three years medical technology
experienceAt least one year supervisory experienceASCP
